it started one fall afternoon while driving up the pacific coast highway. a little over a year ago, both kelvin and i hung out with will, my only georgia friend at the time. i met will through love boat in taiwan a few years back and was excited that he was in town. kelvin was in los angeles co-oping at air products for the semester. we headed to malibu to visit zuma beach, a gorgeous tourist beach. as we were sitting in stop and go la traffic, i started to get car sick and asked if we could stop for some food. will saw a sign for pizza and pulled over. delirious, i ordered a whole cheese pizza, not knowing that they sold pizzas by the slice. thankfully, kelvin was there to help me out with the pizza.
we spent the rest of the day taking pictures and being tourists of los angeles. a year ago, i never would have guessed that i would meet someone from georgia in los angeles and that we would be together a year later. it took a lot of random events to unfold for us to be meet, and i still can’t believe it. 🙂 that’s serendipity.
we still laugh about the whole pizza. on monday, we thought it would be cute to revisit the pizza place that we shared our first meal together. it would have been fun to go with will to celebrate with us. when we saw the “pizza by the slice” sign as we drove up the PCH, we immediately knew this was the place.
i thought it was fitting that the place was called d’amore’s pizza.
there’s a market by the pizza place that kelvin had gone to get a drink at. he couldn’t find the drink he had originally ordered, so he went for some celsius instead.
the pizza 🙂
we stopped by topanga state beach and watched tons of surfers catching waves.
our last stop in malibu was the getty villa. while i’m not as fascinated in ancient art, i did find the fountains, gardens, and overal architecture of the place stunning.
we practiced some portrait taking with the architecture.
my favorite part of the villa was the outer peristyle, the largest garden at the getty villa. there is a large 220 foot reflection pool spanning the length of the courtyard.
the covered walkway along the courtyard had such detailed architecture.
a owl coin from ancient athens that kelvin found on display. i guess they liked owls back then too!
this cypriot fertility goddess statue caught my eye. it seemed quite modern stylistically for a 3000 – 2500 B.C artwork.
