i’ve had my mind set on hiking half dome ever since i hiked to the top of vernal falls (half of the half dome hike) with amy, andy and trimaine last summer. my brother, sister, kelvin, and i set out early in the morning to conquer this 16 mile hike. i was excited by the prospect of challenging myself with a 12 hour hike.
nevada falls, the first water fall along the hike.
the mist trail consists of hundreds of steep stone steps along the nevada falls.
kelvin enjoying the view of vernal falls.
kelvin and me in front of vernal falls, the second water fall we pass along the mist trail.
mules packing out human waste from a wilderness campsite.
my brother and sister catching sight of the top of half dome.
half dome.
kelvin in front of the cables for the final climb up half dome.
exhausted after making it to the top, my brother and sister take a nap.
kelvin setting up for a photo. it’s weird how the edge looks like a pile of stones laid out like bricks.
waiting for the group ahead of us to climb down the cables, i snapped a picture of the drop.
my brother and sister making the descent.
at night, we spent some time star gazing. kelvin found out that there was a perseid meteor shower, so at night we stood along the road staring at the night sky. i wasn’t luck enough to catch any meteors on camera, but we did see a lot. i’m always impressed by the immense number of stars in the sky. it’s sad that we have so much light pollution where i live. i never see even half of these beauties at night.
