kelvin, marvin, and i decided to join go kickball, an adult kickball league this summer at piedmont park, and while i envisioned a bunch of people getting together to play rec sports.. laughing and hanging out, that’s not exactly what my sunday’s playing kickball have ended up being.
after my first practice in the beginning of summer, i quickly realized that people are actually very good at kickball and play it in all seriousness to win. having not played a single game since middle school p.e., i get quite a rush playing because i’m so scared to screw up and cost the team another out.

we lost our first three games before we finally won a game last weekend. this weekend was theme week, so we decided to dress up in a pool/beach party theme. we went and got water wings and animal ring floaties to dress up in. some people even brought goggles and flippers. i couldn’t stop laughing at everyone’s inflatable props on the field.
to everyone’s delight, we ended up winning 12-1 to the pirates, who had amazing costumes and said “arr” after each pitch. i’m heading back to california next week, and i’m happy to end the season this way. at last, a good, clean fun game of kickball.
