the weekender
a weekend in palo alto with my favorite locals, maddie and amy
admiring the beautiful fall tree outside maddie’s mom’s house
of all weekends, this was a legitimately relaxing weekend. amy turned 21 on friday, and we met her parents and some friends for dinner at chef chu’s. i’d say chef chu’s, despite the confusing to pronounce name, is one of the best chinese food places i’ve been to in a long time. i really miss home cooked chinese food.
i spent the first night and maddie’s mom’s house. it’s always really nice when i get the chance to visit friends’ homes and meeting their family.
we met up with amy at around noon. the weather in the bay area wasn’t so great on saturday, but we made the best of it. the two of them took me to their beautiful park, foothill park, and then we went to a bead store, where i spent over an hour examining which beads to purchase. i had never been to a bead store before. it is sort of overwhelming. i had no idea that individual beads could cost so much. anyway, i enjoyed myself at the bead store and bought two charms to make necklaces with.
i suppose that the rain made us stay indoors, so we had a craft day at maddie’s mom’s house. we watched the trojans beat the bears as we constructed our necklaces and made felt animals. i made a whale, and amy named him humphrey. i’m pretty pleased with how he turned out.
after the game, we met up with maddie’s little sister for coffee and visited the 24 hour safeway to pick up honey o’s, my new cereal obsession.
i spent saturday night at amy’s house, and in the morning, we met alex for breakfast at a cute french cafe near stanford. afterwards, we stopped at gilroy for the j. crew outlet and then headed back to L.A.
the weather and driving conditions were absolutely terrible in the grapevine on the way home. it was pouring and the fog was really thick. i can’t believe how scary it is to drive on the freeway when the visibility in less than 20 feet.
well, the trip was nice. the weekender is always a nice excuse to take a trip up to norcal.
