Homecoming 2007: Dam the Beavers!
i must admit, i love dressing up. i love thinking up costumes and compiling several seemingly random items to create a costume. the best kind of costumes are the ones that randomly come together. partially handmade, inexpensive, and completely personalized.
my apartment became a costume making workshop last week. because of halloween and homecoming activities, there were so many different opportunities to dress up.
we had a librarians and barbarians exchange with TKE on friday, and amy, maddie, and i decided to go as barbarians. we went to joanne’s to find animal print fabric, and i decided on the giraffe print. it’s pretty sad that i was pretending to be a barbarian wearing giraffe fur since giraffes are definitely top on my favorite animals list. i guess that’s all part of the fun since it was fake.
anyway, we found making costumes a lot harder than it looks. i wish i knew how to use a sewing machine. seriously. anyway, as the costume progressed, it seemed to get smaller and smaller… and my apartment floor was getting more and more covered with pieces of giraffe fur. at one point, i just had to stop even though it wasn’t exactly how i wanted it because i was scared it was going to disappear. it’s like when you’re trying to cut a perfectly shaped heart from paper and you keep adjusting the edges of the heart. at some point the heart just gets so small, you don’t know what to do with it.
a good week/weekend indeed. and we won the homecoming game! awesome.
