i miss the olympics.
i miss the amazing atheltic performances every night.
i miss the endless commericals.
(especially the visa card commerical with michael phelps swimming butterfly across the ocean and the mazda commercial with the sexy blue rx-8)
i miss spending time with my family and friends on the couch going “wow” and “ooh” after each event.
but most of all, i miss being awestruck by amazing swimmers like michael phelps of the United States…
… and ian thorpe of Australia.
watching them is humbling. they make my starts look even more pathetic than they already are. their starts are incredible. how do they jump so far and high? i couldn’t even jump over a pool noodle my coach held for me at swim practice. their turns are amazing, and they streamline halfway out the pool looking like dolphins. it’s like everything my swim coach nags me about during practice played out in front of me.
and people dream about having just one olympic gold in their life. or maybe even just competing and having a chance to be among such great atheletes, but michael phelps and ian thorpe have both far exceeded those dreams. they are my heroes.
i can’t remember swimming ever being so popular in the olympics. michael phelps and ian thorp have really promoted swimming. awesome.
i’m sad that the olympics are over. we’ll have to wait another four years for the summer olympics to return in beijing.
